Hudson River Plane Crash

On Thursday January 15, 2009 a US Airways plane crashed into the Hudson River in NY. Thankfully, all passengers survived and many credit the heroic work of the pilot for a great landing and making sure all were safe. While this is a good story out of what could have been a devastating tragedy it raises the question: how safe is air travel? A commonly held theory is that air travel is the safest of all transportation but how do we know? The planes and engines for them are put through rigorous testing before they are ever allowed to take passengers and there is extensive maintenance checking that occurs before flights.

How do we know for a fact that the mechanics have checked everything properly before a plane takes off? How much information does air traffic control have at their disposal when they allow planes to fly through turbulence? The accident in NY seemed to be “freakish” in nature as birds struck the engine but I wonder how was this not tested?

I am nervous about flying and incidents like this do not help, and I am sure the same can be said for others nervous about flying as well.
Recycling Fanatic

I’m A Recycling Fanatic. I’m addicted to recycling. I recycle at home. I recycle at work. I teach people about recycling if they ask me and I promote recycling in my neighborhood. There are three main things that I do that are recycling-centric: home recycling, work recycling, and eco-walking. At home, I’m lucky enough to have free curb-side pick up of my recyclables. I can recycle all glass, metal, paper, and #1 and #2 plastics. The bins are free and they will bring you as many bins as you want from the city offices to use. On average, I throw away only 1 trash bag a week of non-recyclable items. At work, I started a recycle program in my office. I take anything people will give me and some people even bring me their home recyclables to work. To date I have recycled over 18,000 bottles and cans this way, and that is in only 1 1/2 years! I eco-walk. Eco-walking is when you walk through your neighborhoods and pick up all the trash and recyclables you find there. I do this a lot in the spring/summer/fall and my neighbors have even thanked me for it. It truly feeds the spirit.

Blogging
If you’re looking for a cheap alternative to therapy, online blogging is very therapeutic. If you have no idea what a blog is, a blog is an online journal of anything that you want it to be. A blog (a mixture of the terms Web log) is a website, usually maintained by a person with regular entries of observations, descriptions of events, notes, thoughts or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in newest entry first.
Over the years, bloggers (those who keep a regularly updated blog) have grown to epic proportions on the World Wide Web. You can find blogs on almost any subject that you can possible imagine. Some use blogs as online diaries, self-help tips, fashion, video games, reviews, poetry, travel, news, etc. I have a few different blogs and each one is uniquely me in content. I’ve found that keeping a blog and filling it with thoughts, emotions, ideas, etc helps me later when I go back & re-read it later. They’re great for helping you see the big picture when you’re feeling a little lost.

My Secrets layed bare
How do you think it would feel to have a secret and no one to tell? I am okay. My life is perfect and there is absolutely nothing I can complain about.
This isn’t a sob story; I don’t have cancer, I’m not in debt, my dad doesn’t struggle to support a daughter he still doesn’t know is a college dropout, but I have secrets. It’s as if I’m a scale and the world wants to see how much it weighs, only I have no problems. I shouldn’t be stressed out because I have no external factors to stress over, but what is tearing me apart is my inability to express my deepest fears, wants, beliefs, my deepest anything.
I’m surrounded by good people, loving friends, a family that only wants the best for me, but I’ve spun my life with a web of lies and now that I want to be cleansed of my sins there is no one but God who I can call on. I’m tired of having conversations in my head and calling it ‘introspection’ so that I can make myself feel less psychotic. I don’t mind talking to my savior because, well, he saved me and he blesses me, but The Lord only talks back in signs that are hard to discern. I’m only human and I need someone in my life to confide in, the search for him my favorite past-time. I need him to know me.
I need someone who I can tell everything to and not be judged, only loved for who I really am, but I have everyone and no one simultaneously. They ask me to tell, I want to tell them, but I can’t.
